It seems that the production for the anticipated “Aquaman” movie is finally seeing more progress as new updates have been revealed. It has just been announced that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has been cast for the role of the movie’s supervillain. Meanwhile, Nicole Kidman is also in the talks of joining the cast.

The developments regarding the production of “Aquaman” has been going well so far with Jason Momoa even revealing never before seen footage through a show that features his life. After some time of sitting down with countless actors, James Wan, director of the up and coming “Aquaman” movie, is finally out with the good news that they have found the perfect actor to portray the role of one of the movie’s villains. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has been confirmed to play the role of Black Manta.

Black Manta is a long time archenemy of Aquaman and the city of Atlantis, and the said super villain has already shown up in several animated adaptations despite his name not ringing a bell, especially to those not that acquainted with the characters of the DC comics universe. James Wan revealed that it took them two weeks meeting up with different actors and finally settled with Abdul-Mateen II for the role over the weekend.

It is safe to say that people approved of Abdul-Mateen II for the role since the character as always been portrayed as an African-American. But the big deal is, Warner Bros. is investing on a new actor for a major role especially in a superhero movie wherein the cast are bound to reprise their roles for sequels and this has gotten many fans curious. Abdul-Mateen II may be a fresh actor who just got out of drama school but he is definitely making headlines.

Apparently, Abdul-Mateen II is a rising actor and just as he went after his dreams, trying to make it in Hollywood, he lands countless acting offers. The said young actor has already been set to star in the Netflix series, “The Get Down”, a musical that is slated to release sometime in 2017, and in the awaited “Baywatch” movie adaptation, alongside Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Zac Efron. Aside from those, IMBD has already listed four more productions that he has been cast in, namely “First Match”, “The Greatest Showman”, “Boundaries”, and “Sidney Hall”.

Besides Yahya Abdul-Mateen II making it into the cast of the upcoming movie about the “Justice League” superhero, it has been reported that veteran actress, Nicole Kidman is currently meeting up with the production team as she is in talks to possibly join the cast. It has been said that Kidman has been offered to play the role of Aquaman’s mother. The first origin story for “Aquaman” back in 1941 revealed his mother, named Elaine died when he gave birth to him.

But Kidman will be playing the role of Atlanna, the Atlantean mother of Aquaman who was a member of the royal family. This other origin story for Aquaman was in the Silver Age when “Aquaman” was continued in Adventure Comics and adjustments were made in his backstory, making him a half-Atlanean, son of Atlanna and a man named Tom Curry. "Aquaman" is set to release in 2018.
