Rumors of the iPad mini 2 started to surface in the tablet space very soon after the release of the iPad mini. The iPad mini has taken over hearts of millions of tablet users but the tablet has also received criticism for not having a Retina display. Many tech gurus predict that the next-generation iPad mini 2 will have a Retina display but per a recent report the next-generation tablet will not have the Retina display but the one after that will sport it.
"We see two refreshes coming. One in the second half of this year, then one in Q1 [first quarter] of 2014. The Q1 [2014] device will have a Retina display plus an updated processor," said Richard Shim, a senior analyst at DisplaySearch to CNet.
If rumors are to be believed, then we have to wait a bit longer for the Retina display in the 7.9-inch iPad mini 2. If the much-anticipated Retina display is missing from the iPad mini 2 then it may get disappointing for many tablet fans. However, Apple may get a higher density display in the iPad mini 2 to keep customers happy. It is interesting to note that Shim has not indicated that the iPad mini 2 will not have the Retina display.
If rumors are true then the big question arises what other improvements Apple can bring to iPad mini 2 apart from the Retina display.
The iPad mini has 7.87 x 5.30 x 0.28 inch dimensions and the iPad mini 2 is expected to be around the same size. Apple could possibly reduce the thickness and weight of the iPad mini 2, but that may affect the battery size of the tablet.
The iPad mini is available in 16/32/64GB internal storage options and the iPad mini 2 is likely to follow suit. Rumors also suggest that Apple could introduce a 128GB version as well. However, iFans' dreams of having an expandable memory option seem unrealistic.
Apple has not announced the iPad mini 2 so we will have to wait until more information is revealed by the company.
