Capcom Pro Tour 2017 first details have been announced by Capcom today. The announcement video highlights a massive $600,000 prize pool for Street Fighter 5. Last year, fans saw the Capcom Pro Tour shift from Street Fighter 4 to Street Fighter 5. However, they also saw it expands ominously. Meanwhile, extending the event for this year is not the top priority. It was reported that Capcom prioritizes streamlining the complicated process of Capcom Cup qualifications. At the same time, keeping the global engagement of the event.
According to the report from Game Rant, there are 50 tournaments already planned for this year's Capcom Pro Tour with the likes of EVO 2017 and more. Furthermore, it also includes the different regional finals, which are positive to be announced soon. The tour from last year features 72 various tournaments that scattered all over March, while the Capcom Cup in December.
Based on the report fitting additional events last year is a bit confusing. However, this year will have more on the line. Additionally, the prize pool was increased from $500,000 to $600,000. But it could increase if the company shares the sales for its DLC. For instance, the $90,000 earned for the prize of last year's Capcom Cup.
About the streamlining the Capcom Cup qualification process, Capcom is dropping the auto-qualification of the tournament winners of Premiere Event. As a substitute, 30 out of the 32 Capcom Cup qualifiers will be those who gained the most accumulated Capcom Tour points. Meanwhile, Premiere Event will still reward more points compared to smaller Ranking Events. Apparently, EVO 2017's Street Fighter 5 tournament will provide the most points among other activities. However, it is worth noting that participants are required to earn as many points as they can to quality.
Overall, the Final Round of Capcom Pro Tour 2017 for Street Fighter 5 kicks off in Atlanta, Georgia. Meanwhile, the Final Round 20 will start on March 10. The full schedule for the tour is still being finalized. However, it should be expected to start in April.
