With flexible glass technology harkening back to at least a year ago when we first reported on the new craze, the real question now is which device will be the first to rock the display that many analysts believe will completely revolutionize the industry. At this point, all fingers are pointing to the forthcoming Nexus 5, Samsung Galaxy Note 3 or LG Optimus G2.
We only yesterday (Tuesday, May 21) reported on a new speculative concept design for the Nexus 5 that includes some pretty outlandish wish list features and specs. Despite the fact that flexible display technology was not included (the artist who developed this concept went with Gorilla Glass instead) has little to do with the reality that Google definitely wants to come out with something special when it comes to the follow-up to the Nexus 4, and a flexible display could be just the ticket.
Similarly, Google frenemy LG has been touting its own flexible display technology as of late, and this might lead us to believe that the forthcoming hot item from the company –– the LG Optimus G2 –– will be the first to go flexible.
"The most obvious answer [after Samsung] is LG, as the company has recently been touting its own flexible OLED HD panel about at the Society for Information Display conference in Vancouver, and things look to be moving swiftly in the right direction for the world's second favorite Korean tech manufacturer," The Full Signal says in an article published on Wednesday, May 22.
"The company's offering is made from plastic, rather than glass, which is said to deliver greater flexibility and LG has said that it will be fully utilized in one of its devices by the end of the year."
And speaking of Samsung, which The Full Signal suggests (along with many other sites and analysts) is first in the running to come out with a device that will have the flexible display technology (that it itself has been pioneering for some time now), its own Galaxy Note 3 might be Numero Uno when it comes to flexibility.
We reported on May 10 that a flexible display would be integrated into the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. But now there's leaks and rumors out there that suggest otherwise.
Ultimately, it does seem that of these three devices, the LG Optimus G2 and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 are the most likely to come with a flexible display first, but at this point, we'll just have to wait and see.
Which device do you think will come out with the flexible display first? The Nexus 5? The LG Optimus G2 or the Samsung Galaxy Note 3? Or do you think it might be another device we didn't mention? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
