The Xiaomi Mi 6 has finally been unveiled during an event held in Beijing yesterday, April 19. The Chinese company went a different route from last year when it announced the Mi 5 at the Mobile World Congress. So far, the most interesting aspect of the Mi 6 is its similarity to the iPhone 7 as well as to the Galaxy S8, which is not completely a bad thing.
When it comes to power, expect the Xiaomi Mi 6 to be as good as the Samsung Galaxy S8 for the simple reason that they both sports Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 835 processor. The Mi 6, in fact, will be the first device after the Galaxy S8 to come with the new CPU. It may even be better as it comes with 6GB of RAM as compared to the Galaxy S8 which has 4GB of RAM.
Tech Crunch listed down the similarities that the Mi 6 have with Apple's current flagship smartphone. First of all, they both have two 12 megapixel rear cameras, one with the wide-angle lens and another with a telephoto lens. Another similarity between the two is the lack of a headphone jack. This can be taken as a negative as the iPhone 7 was generally criticized when they made the bold move.
As VentureBeat reported, the Xiaomi Mi 6 also comes with a 5.15-inch Full HD display with better color range than its predecessor. Xiaomi also improved the quality of the display so that reading at night will be a better experience. The Xiaomi Mi 6 will also have a large 3350mAh battery and dual speakers. It will be available in black, white and blue colors with one variant having a ceramic back.
Surprisingly, the price of the high-end Mi 6 is nowhere near that of the iPhone 7. The Xaiomi Mi 6 has a price tag of only $360 for the 64GB storage model. The one with 128GB is worth around $420 while the ceramic edition is worth roughly $435.
If there are three reasons why you should get a Xiaomi Mi 6, these are Xiaomi's reputation of producing high-quality products, the Mi 6's powerful specs and other features particularly the latest processor and dual camera set-up, and finally, its relatively affordable price. Though the Mi 6 looks promising on paper and its design is equally impressive, its real value will be known once the device comes out and people get to actually use and test it out.
The Xiaomi Mi 6 will be available starting April 28 in China. There's no word yet when the flagship smartphone will ship to the United States or other parts of the globe.
