Five Million HTC Ones And 10 Million Galaxy S4s Later, Should Apple Be Concerned?

The recently launched Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One are undoubtedly some of the most-anticipated and the most-wanted smartphones currently available. The sales figures of both the devices show the success and the popularity of the smartphones as the HTC One has achieved five million units sold and the Galaxy S4 10 million units sold.

Various U.S. carriers started selling the HTC One from April 19 onwards while the Galaxy S4 hit the shelves on April 27.

The HTC One has sold half the number of units when compared to the Galaxy S4 but its impressive as the HTC One had to face stiff competition from the latest Samsung offering and the iPhone 5.

Samsung's official blog posted "Samsung Electronics announced that global channel sales of its GALAXY S4, a life companion for a richer, fuller, simpler life, has surpassed 10 million units sold in less than one month after its commercial debut. Launched globally on April 27 in 60 countries, the phone is estimated to be selling at a rate of four units per second."

The Galaxy S3 sold 10 million units after 50 days of release and the Galaxy S2 reached the same milestone after five months. Furthermore, the first-generation Galaxy S took seven months to reach the 10 million sales figures.

However, the HTC One's sales figure does not come from HTC officially. A Wall Street Journal report cites an anonymous HTC executive and says "Orders are pretty good so far and are still more than what we can supply. This is partly due to the shortage of components. When the issue is resolved next month, we will have a better idea if it's doing really well or not."

The high-popularity of the device, pre-launch hype as well as launch in many markets could be the reason for both the devices achieving such high sales figures.

The next-gen iPhone 5S is expected to debut soon so, now the question arises: should Apple be concerned over HTC One selling five million units and Galaxy S4 selling 10 million units within a month of release?

The iPhone 5 reached a global sales milestone of five million just within the release weekend. Millions of iFans are eagerly waiting for the launch of the next-gen iPhone so it should not come as surprise if the iPhone 5S also sells similar or even higher number of handsets, when compared to the iPhone 5.
