If there's one thing learned from teardowns and stress tests, it's how durable a device is. In the case of the Xiaomi Mi 6, it is tough and almost 100 percent waterproof.
The Xiaomi Mi 6 was subjected to a series of stress tests by YouTuber Zack Nelson of JerryRigEverything. Impressively, the smartphone survived almost everything Nelson did to it including scratch, bend and burn tests making it one of the sturdiest smartphones the YouTuber ever tested.
When the Xiamomi Mi 6 was unveiled, the Chinese company boldly announced that its flagship was splash proof. Nelson wanted to see if the claim holds through so he put the device to the test. He found out that Xiaomi did almost everything to make the Mi 6 waterproof. The company got rid of the headphone jack mainly for this reason and sealed all the holes except for one. That one hole, the USB-Type C port, allowed water and moisture to flow inside the handset as reported by GSMArena. Because of this, Nelson gave the Xiaomi Mi 6 an IP64 waterproof rating.
Nelson did not have a hard time taking the Xiaomi Mi 6 apart. He also turned it into a "clear back" device by ridding the back panel of its paint.
The Xiaomi Mi 6 is looking more and more like one of the better smartphones to come out this year. In fact, the Mi 6 will have some of the key features of the iPhone 7 and this year's current smartphone standout, the Samsung Galaxy S8. Xiaomi holds the distinction of being the first outside of Samsung to utilize the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor in China. The Mi 6 also has the same camera features as that of the iPhone 7. The current Apple flagship comes with a 12-megapixel dual lens rear cameras, one of which is a telephoto sensor while the other is a wide-angle lens with 4-axis OIS. With these two features, the Mi 6 is off to a good start and even has the potential to be better than the iPhone 7 and the Galaxy S8. Apple uses its own processors though the Snapdragon 835, being the latest in a long line of CPUs, seems more updated than what the iPhone 7 has inside it. The Galaxy S8, meanwhile, only has a single-lens camera giving the Mi 6 the advantage in this category.
Android Headlines noted the other premium features of the Xiaomi Mi 6 which include 6GB of RAM, up to 128GB of built-in storage, support for dual nano SIMs, fingerprint sensor, and a 3350mAh battery. The Mi 6 has a ceramic variant with 18-karat gold trim around the camera which may be a waste if the premium smartphone gets submerged in water.
