The recently-launched Samsung Galaxy S4 is the first Samsung handset to come running on Android 4.2.2. Previous rumors indicated that Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 will also get Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update but now it seems that the software release has been delayed.
Both the Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 2 run on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and many users of these handsets were probably hoping to get Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean as well. However, a recent tweet from SamMobile suggests that the software release has been delayed.
The SamMobile tweet says "Samsung delayed 4.2.2 for Note II and S III. Reason new TW for S III and Note II."
The delay seems to have been caused by the new version of TouchWiz that needs to be tested on both Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2.
Samsung has also announced the Galaxy Ace 3 that will come running on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box, which indicates that more Samsung handsets are in the pipeline to get the latest software update.
Currently, a major chunk of Android devices run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The upcoming Android 4.2 Jelly Bean will improve the speed and simplicity of Android-powered smartphones. The software update will also bring new features such as the Photo Sphere and a completely redesigned camera app. Following the update, Android smartphones will also get Gesture Typing keyboard, Google Now with new features and much more.
Some rumors also hint at the launch of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean soon. It shouldn't come as a surprise if Android 4.3 Jelly Beans is released to Nexus devices first and then rolled out to other devices. However, for now, many Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 owners will be eagerly waiting for Android 4.2 Jelly Bean to be rolled out to their devices as soon as possible.
