Nokia Lumia Amber update: What's the Canada and U.S. AT&T status?

Nokia has started pushing out the much-awaited Amber update for WP8-powered Lumia smartphones, but some owners in Canada and the U.S. are still waiting for the new software.

While Canadian carriers TELUS and Rogers pushed out the Amber software update for their variants of the Lumia 620 and Lumia 920, respectively, several other Lumia smartphones from the carriers are still "awaiting approval."

Additionally, consumers in the U.S. who own the AT&T variant of the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 are yet to receive the Amber update as well. By contrast, Verizon and T-Mobile customers have already received the update on their Lumia smartphones. Verizon has already pushed out the Amber update for Lumia 928 and Lumia 822. T- Mobile has also rolled out the update for the Lumia 521 and Lumia 810.

Apart from AT&T, Aio Wireless is the only other carrier left to push out the update for its Lumia 620.

So what's the status for the AT&T Lumia 920 and Lumia 820? The update versions 1232.5962.1314.0001 (Lumia 820) and 1232.5962.1314.0001 (Lumia 920) are still "awaiting approval," according to the Nokia support page.

In Canada, the Lumia 520 from all carriers and the Lumia 620 from Koodo are awaiting approval. Interestingly, TELUS pushed out the Amber update for its variant of the Lumia 620 a few weeks back.

Nokia defines "waiting for approval" as the stage where the software is undergoing final testing, either in a particular region or a specific mobile carrier, before it gets the green signal.

"When the software update is 'waiting for approval', it is still being processed in the final testing. 'Coming soon' is better for you, as we then already have approved the software and are doing just the final tweaks before releasing it," explained Nokia.

At the end of August, Nokia had urged customers to "be patient" as the Amber update was coming and would be pushed out to all WP8 phones by September-end.

With September nearly ending, AT&T customers in the U.S. would be wondering by when the update would hit their Lumia 920. While their Canadian counterparts have received the update for the Lumia 920, they too would be eagerly looking out for the update on other Lumia smartphones.

To ensure that you don't miss out on the alert for the update's availability, go to your smartphone's Settings and then navigate to Phone Update. Next, enable "Tell me when updates are available for my phone."
