The controversial Recall AI from Microsoft is making a comeback later in the fall season, but it will only be available via beta for Copilot+ subscribers. This return of Recall AI will only be available for a limited number of users as well as through a closed-door testing phase to insiders.
Microsoft is said to be looking to assess more of what it has to offer to avoid another public launch disaster. It can be recalled that, earlier this year, Microsoft introduced the Recall AI feature but was met with criticisms because of its reported privacy and security risks.

It has been revealed by Microsoft that it plans to gather gather feedback and more information regarding its Recall from Windows Insiders who will get to try out the tool. As previously mentioned, Recall will only be accessible for select users, who will serve as beta testers.

Did Microsoft Already Fix Recall AI's Issues?
Microsoft has not confirmed whether or not it has fixed the issues that was raised during Recall's initial release, particularly the criticisms raised by security expert. However, the tech giant has assured that security is still its "top priority" for its users.
Furthermore, Microsoft has guaranteed that it will be more transparent when it comes to Recall's development through future blog posts that detail its progress, features, and what it can offer to users.
It is unclear whether or not an improved version of Recall will be released for the public.
Microsoft's AI Developments and Recall
Last May, Microsoft introduced its Recall feature on Windows for Copilot+ PCs. This feature is described as an AI-powered program that can remember your computer history and later share it with you when asked. It is seen as a particularly helpful tool from Microsoft for Windows, especially for those who are forgetful as users can conveniently pull up their previous activity by asking the AI to do so.
However, there has been a significant outcry against this feature from experts and security analysts, claiming that the AI will have access to one's computer history and data. Safety issues have also been raised against the Recall feature. The company went on to make the feature optional on computers and promised that it will only store records locally to avoid issues.
Given these concerns, Microsoft has delayed the rollout of Recall AI for Copilot+ PCs on Windows 11 and has yet to see any public release for users.
Despite being a controversial tech, Microsoft still wants to deliver this experience to users, and can be said that the first step of being able to do so it through its planned beta release this October.
