Sony Official Unveils the PlayStation 5 Pro—What Makes It Different?

After weeks of speculations about its existence, the PlayStation 5 Pro has been officially announced by Sony. The new console promises as slew of upgrades that will improve the user's gaming experience. 

Pre-orders will be opened in the coming weeks ahead of its November 7 launch. The PlayStation 5 Pro is priced at $699.99.

Every order will the following:

  • 2TB SSD
  • DualSense wireless controller
  • Copy of Astro's Playroom pre-installed

It should be noted that the PS5 Pro is a disc-less console. However, these is the option to pruchase the Disc Drive for PS5 separately.

One of the main features of the PlayStation 5 Pro is its upgraded GPU. According to Sony, it will have 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console. It will likewise have a 28% faster memory. 

In addition, advanced ray tracing has also been added to the console, as well as what is being referred to as the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. This has been described by as Sony as an "AI-driven upscaling that uses a machine learning-based technology to provide super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail."

Aside from this, the new console will also have what is called the PS5 Pro Game Boost. This can be applied to the more than 8,500 backward compatible PlayStation 4 games that are playable on PS5 Pro. This feature helps stabilize and improve performance of supported PS4 games and can even enhance image quality.

When and How to Pre-Order

Those who want to pre-order the PS5 Pro as soon as possible can do so on September 26 via direct.playstation.com. This date also applies to participating retailers in territories where direct.playstation.com is not available.

Those who want to pre-order from other participating retailers will have to wait until October 10 to do so.
