Samsung Galaxy S6 to debut at CES 2015 in January?

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6 could be making its debut sooner in 2015, potentially arriving at the CES trade show in January.

This year, Samsung unveiled its Galaxy S4 flagship at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014, and the smartphone hit commercial availability in April. With 2014 now almost over, Samsung fans are looking forward to see the new-generation Galaxy flagship smartphone in early 2015.

So far, most rumors and reports hinted at the MWC 2015 as the most likely venue for the Galaxy S6's debut. South Korean analysts, however, are now predicting that Samsung may actually take the wraps off its new Galaxy S6 sooner, at the CES 2015 trade show in January.

The new report comes from Korean publication Chosun Biz (via GforGames), which cites analysts from Mirae Asset Securities (MAS). According to the report, analysts believe the Galaxy S6 could make its formal debut as early as CES 2015, which takes place on Jan. 6 - 9. Moreover, analysts also believe that Samsung will unveil its new flagship smartphone alongside an "edgier" variant with a dual-edged display, similar to the Galaxy Note 4 Edge. This is not the first time a Galaxy S6 Edge is rumored to debut alongside the Galaxy S6 next year.

Samsung might make an effort to push both devices on the market earlier in the year in order to get a more significant head start against rivals. Both devices will reportedly pack many components developed in-house, which could bring higher profits to the company. After the Galaxy S5's disappointing performance this year, Samsung is reportedly looking at the Galaxy S6 to turn things around.

At this point, analysts predict that Samsung will ship roughly 45 million Galaxy S6 units in 2015, 10 million of which are expected to be Galaxy S6 Edge models.

The next-generation Galaxy S6 is expected to come with top-notch specs and features on board to make up for the Galaxy S5's weak performance this year. The smartphone recently popped up in benchmark results such as AnTuTu, and is expected to pack a 64-bit Exynos 7420 octa-core processor under the hood, paired with ARM Mali-T760 graphics and 3GB of RAM. The company is also expected to launch a Galaxy S6 variant with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, but it remains to be seen whether the chip will be ready in time for the smartphone's launch. Other rumored specs include 32GB of internal storage capacity, a 16- or 20-megapixel rear camera, and Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box, topped with a new version of Samsung's TouchWiz UX.

Keep in mind that it's all in the rumor state for now, however, so it is best to take everything with a grain of salt at this point.
