Samsung Galaxy S6 may go on sale on March 22, vacation blackout suggests

Samsung's much-touted Galaxy S6 flagship smartphone may be ready to hit retail in late March, a new leak suggests.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 is one of the most hotly-anticipated devices of this year, and it's expected to make its official debut in early March at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015, alongside a curved-display variant that may be called the Galaxy S6 Edge.

More specifically, Samsung has scheduled a Galaxy Unpacked 2015 event for March 1, where it should unveil its latest smartphones. That doesn't mean that the handsets will go on sale the same day, however. Historically, Samsung devices have hit commercial availability a while after the official debut, not immediately after the unveiling.

This year, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge will debut on March 1, but it remains to be seen when they will actually become available for purchase. Samsung has made no announcement in this regards, but some newly-leaked information now gives us a few hints.

Phone Arena has received an intriguing tip from an alleged Samsung employee and it may relate to the Galaxy S6 commercial release. According to the report, Samsung sent out emails to employees notifying them of upcoming vacation blackouts. For those unfamiliar with the practice, a vacation blackout means that employees are not allowed to take any time off work during that period, as it should be extremely busy.

The vacation blackout mentioned in this leaked email starts on March 22 and lasts until March 30, which indicates that the Samsung Galaxy S6 may go on sale on or around March 22.

That's not the only vacation blackout, however, as a second one is apparently set between April 19 - 27. The tipster reportedly thinks that this second vacation blackout could be related to a Galaxy Note tablet launch, but it's just speculation at this point. At the same time, Samsung could choose to release its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge on different dates, and the two vacation blackouts could be for when each of the two smartphones goes on sale.

Either way, this is an indication that Samsung won't take too long after the unveiling to actually make its devices available. Both Samsung and HTC are set to unveil their latest and greatest devices on March 1, but it remains to be seen which company will be the first to bring them to market.
