Huawei quietly unveiled a sleek new tablet in France, as a metallic MediaPad M2 popped up in a company boutique in central Paris.
The new MediaPad M2 boasts a full-metal body that makes it look and feel stylish, and comes with an 8-inch display that puts it in the small-size segment of the tablet market.
Huawei has been in the news quite a lot recently, but mostly because the company is rumored to be making a Google Nexus smartphone that would launch later this year. The Huawei Nexus smartphone is expected to launch in addition to an LG-made Nexus handset, which means that Google is rumored to release two new Nexus smartphones this year.
While Huawei made no mention of this purported Nexus handset, the company did unveil this new MediaPad M2 tablet in France. The company made no big announcement and offered no details yet regarding a global release for the new slate, but the MediaPad M2 is nonetheless real and comes with good specs on board.
The tablet's 8-inch display has a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels, which should deliver quality visuals. Under the hood, the Huawei MediaPad M2 packs an in-house 64-bit Kirin 930 processor with a 2GHz octa-core CPU, paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage capacity.
Other specs of the Huawei MediaPad M2 include an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front shooter, and a 4,800 mAh battery. The slate further features Cat. 4 LTE support, and runs a customized version of Android Lollipop on the software side.
In terms of weight and dimensions, the new MediaPad M2 tablet from Huawei reportedly measures 7.8mm in thickness and tips the scales at 310 grams. When it comes to availability, the slate is expected to go on sale in early June, sporting a price tag of €349.
As previously mentioned, no information is currently available regarding when the new Huawei MediaPad M2 will see a wider release globally, or what other markets it will hit when it does. Huawei should offer more information shortly, and we'll make sure to keep you up to date as soon as additional details become available.
