AMD has announced the specifications of its budget-friendly Radeon RX 460 and 470 GPUs that will be shipped in early August.
AnandTech reports that AMD teased its next two cards briefly, the Radeon RX 460 and 470, at E3 2016's PC Gaming Show even before the Radeon RX 480 has been launched. The Radeon RX 470 and RX 460 are cheaper entries in the AMD Radeon 400 series. They are based on the same Polaris architecture used in AMD's RX 480, but they come with lower power options.
The specifications of Radeon RX 460 and 470 GPUs weren't released at the time of the E3 2016, but since both cards were presented to the audience, tech experts could get a pretty good idea about their designs. Just a bit over a month later, the high-tech chips manufacturer is announcing now the graphics cards approaching launch date and their full specifications.
According to Engadget, the Radeon RX 460 and RX 470 cater to gamers with modest budgets as well as modest demands. The cards will launch in early August at a price tag below $200, with the RX 460 closer to the $100 mark.
The RX 470 will be VR-friendly, providing up to 4.9 teraflops of computing power. The GPU will come with a 256-bit memory interface and 4 GB of RAM. This is enough to allow playing many new games at 60 frames per second at a resolution of 1080p.
The Radeon RX 460 is AMD's budget counterpart to last year's Radeon R9 Nano. With just 2.2 teraflops of computing power, the card is much less powerful than the other entries in AMD's RX line.
The RX 460 card comes with a 128-bit interface and starts with 2 GB of RAM. However, on the good side, the budget-friendly video card is more power-efficient as it is also far smaller. According to AMD, the RX 460 graphics card uses less than 75W.
