A lot of fans are very excited for the release of Square Enix's Kingdom Hearts III, and game director Nomura Tetsuya has taken the time to comment on the main protagonist, Sora. Despite everything that the character represents for the franchise, Tetsuya still considers Sora to be a "Normal Boy."
Sora: "Normal Boy"
According to KH13, Tetsuya is aware that some may be offended or confused by the statement, since being the central hero of Kingdom Hearts, Sora is far from "normal." He says, "putting it simply, surely everyone lives while feeling the emotions in someone else's heart, and they should all be on their own adventure. With that in mind, Sora is just like any other boy. From here on, just like everyone else, Sora will have many experiences, and as he experiences empathy he surely will grow, but I think he will remain a normal boy in everyone's hearts."
From a certain standpoint, fans can surely understand what Tetsuya means about Sora being a "normal" character. A lot of popular series are usually lead by protagonists that have an "every man" attitude that anyone can relate to; "Star Wars" has Luke Skywalker and "Dragon Ball" has Goku. Even if Sora is a "normal boy," it doesn't necessarily mean that he is nothing short of special.
Kingdom Hearts III Delayed?
As of now, Tetsuya has said that the developers will be taking their time with the release of Kingdom Hearts III in order to ensure that the game meets standards that the company is pleased with. The same delay will also be put on the Final Fantasy VII remake.
A lot of underdeveloped games have been making their way to the market recently, and seeing how Capcom basically floundered after the release of Street Fighter V, it's good to know that Square Enix is trying to avoid making the same mistake. It's better to get a good game that comes out late than an incomplete game that gets released early.
As of now, rumors are suggesting that Kingdom Hearts III is set for a release on May 2018, but nothing has been confirmed from the developers themselves.
