While several Android-powered smartphones and tablets are inundating the consumer market, iFans are waiting patiently for Apple to unveil the next-gen versions of its tablets. Now reports suggest that the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 are gearing up for a September release and will come with the latest A7 processor in tow.
According to an IBTimes report "Apple's iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 release date has been set for September this year and the new iOS 7 tablet rollout is packed with vast improvements like Retina display panel and a faster A7 computing chip, a new report said."
Dutch website MobiLeaks.nl received the details of the renders of the impending iPad mini 2 via a tipster and has revealed that the tablet could come with the A7, and not A6X processor, which is in the works.
"The new iPad Mini would run on the same processor as used in the iPad 4, namely the rapid A6X Apple, but the tipster let us know that this is not quite certain. Because Apple is also working on the development of the A7 chipset. When it is ready in time for use, this new generation processor be fitted on the iPad Mini 2," notes MobiLeaks (translated).
The iPad mini 2's leaked specs reveal that the 7.9-inch tablet will have a slight re-design and will lesser bezels and will be 7.5mm thick. The iPad mini 2 will also have a Retina display in tow with 2048 x 1536 pixels resolution (324 ppi) to give users an immersive experience.
While earlier reports have suggested that Retina on the iPad Mini 2 will lead to a heftier make, the device is estimated to achieve thickness of only 7.5mm from its predecessor's 7.2mm, still keeping the overall compact profile that made the first iPad mini an instant bestseller.
Apple will reportedly offer the iPad mini 2 in 16GB/32GB/64GB storage options without the option to expand the memory further. The iPad mini 2 will also likely have an 8-megapixel primary camera and a 2-megapixel secondary one. The small tablet will also tout iOS 7.
The report does not reveal the price tag for the impending second-gen tablet, but several analysts opine that the iPad mini 2 could be in the same range as its predecessor. The tablet will release in Q3 2013.
