Various Canadian carriers are now rolling out the long-awaited Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update to Samsung Galaxy S3.
Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S3 in May 2012 and the smartphone is still one of the most popular Android handsets launched by the company. The smartphone came pre-loaded with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) at launch. It started receiving Android 4.1 Jelly Bean a few months after its release and most major U.S. carriers have already rolled out the Android 4.1.2 software update to the device. And now, Canadian carriers have started rolling out the update.
A MobileSyrup report says, "An update has been pushed through to Samsung Galaxy S3 users (I747) OTA and Kies - so far we've heard it's available to Rogers, Bell, MTS, Koodo, Fido and TELUS users. This update brings it to OS 4.1.2, version MVLDMF1. A number of readers have noted improvements to the gallery, multi-window feature."
The Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean software update brings a number of enhancements and new features to the Galaxy S3. The Multi-Window View feature enables a user to simultaneously use two applications side by side. The Multi-Window View feature is also available in the Galaxy Note 2 and the recently launched Galaxy S4.
Following the software update, Galaxy S3 users will also get the Best Shot feature, which picks the best group picture from five burst shots. Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update also brings Page Buddy, which gives pop-up suggestion when you connect the smartphone to a headphone or wireless speaker.
The software update also brings along Project Butter, better hotspot functionality, access to the home screen without unlocking the smartphone when a Bluetooth headset is connected, Auto Share Shot in S Beam, Samsung Smart Switch support to aid file transfer, and more.
Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean is already on its way to various smartphones and Galaxy S3 users will hope that the latest software arrives on their handsets as soon as possible. However, for now Galaxy S3 users in Canada will have to be satisfied with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update.
