Motorola Moto Turbo (international Droid Turbo) getting Android 5.0.2 Lollipop

The Moto Turbo, i.e. the Indian, non-CDMA version of the Droid Turbo (Moto Maxx) powerhouse, is now getting an update to Android 5.0.2.

Motorola stirred lots of interest with its Droid Turbo smartphone bound for Verizon Wireless in the U.S., as the handset launched with top-notch specs and features all around. The company later released a global model of the device, launching the Moto Maxx in Latin America, after which it also launched the handset in India as the Moto Turbo.

Not too long ago, Motorola and Verizon announced that the Droid Turbo would soon receive an update that will bring it straight to the very latest Android 5.1 Lollipop, albeit the update has yet to roll out. It was assumed that the international version of the smartphone - both the Moto Maxx and the Moto Turbo - will get the same treatment, but the Moto Turbo is now receiving Android 5.0.2 in India, not the latest Android 5.1.

Nevertheless, the update should bring some neat bug fixes and performance tweaks to improve the overall experience.

As a reminder, the Motorola Moto Turbo (XT1225) comes with the same specifications as the Verizon-bound Droid Turbo, which is exclusive to the U.S. Unlike the Droid Turbo, however, the Moto Turbo is available only with 64GB of internal storage capacity and a ballistic nylon back.

Otherwise, the rest of the specs remain unchanged, which means that the Moto Maxx comes with the same 5-inch QHD (2560 x 1440 pixels) display as the Droid Turbo, as well as the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 21-megapixel rear camera, among the highlights.

According to a new report from BestGadgetry, the update enabled the Indian version of the Moto Maxx to achieve a higher AnTuTu score, and the touchscreen of the smartphone reportedly felt more responsive. The update should also add the new Material Design visuals, lock screen notifications, the two-finger slide down to access quick settings from any page, the new recent apps menu, battery life optimizations, and more.

If the update has already started rolling out in India, it shouldn't be too long now until the Latin America version of the smartphone gets the same treatment as well. When it comes to the Verizon Droid Turbo, the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop update is expected to start rolling out sometime in the middle of next month.
