Supercell has made quite a remarkable run following the success of their latest mobile app, Clash Royale. The game keeps on drawing new subscribers despite the popularity of 2016's killer app, Pokémon GO. Even more so, the game is now officially considered as a competitive Esport after Supercell held professional LAN tournaments of the said title. With the game inclining towards competitive Esport, should it only favor those that can fully commit to the game?
Clash Royale: Why Casual Players' Are Quitting The Game
It's safe to say that Clash Royale opens up various strategies and opportunities for both casual and competitive players. Those that want to enjoy the game casually can simply participate on guild chests and whatnot. But for those that wanted more competition and achievements, they can fully commit to the game by pushing trophies way above 4k.
This is where the casual players' dilemma starts. As you can see, it's quite arduous to push trophies past 4k without having tons of maxed out cards. The Clash Royale top ladder ultimately favors those that have a lot of maxed out cards - in short, those that can P2P. Although it's an undeniable fact that P2P players must always get an advantage over F2P players, the problem with the game is that, for those casual players that have reached the "End Game" or frankly speaking, 4K+ trophies, reaching the top is boring.
In a thread from the Clash Royale subreddit, a player has pointed out that after a short while of reaching the top, everything gets boring and mundane. Based on his observation, the reasons why casual players stop playing the game is that, after reaching the end game, there's nothing much to do - aside from pushing even more; in which case, wouldn't be possible unless, as we've said before, one heavily commits on the game.
According to the poster, once a casual player reaches 4k, it's only normal to push even harder but due to the disparity between the card levels between F2P and P2P players, a casual player would eventually lose interest into the game and eventually quit. So how can Supercell motivate these types of players and prevent them from leaving the game entirely? Well, the poster also provided some amazing ideas:
Daily Quests - dailies would encourage active participation of both F2P and P2P players. With hefty merits, casual players have something to look forward to which ultimately encourages one to continue playing the game.
Clan vs Clan Battles - aside from Clan Chests, Supercell should introduce something that encourages guild activity. Providing guild events and rewards would motivate players to join one which eventually promotes a healthier environment for both F2P and P2P players.
Clash Royale: Supercell to Improve End Game for Casual Players
After the post gained popularity, the official Clash Royale subreddit account has replied to the thread saying that the developers are currently in the works of improving the end game for casual players and to make things a lot interesting for everyone - especially for those that have reached past 4k. Here's the official statement: "solving the end game is our main focus in the next update. However, with this update we're mainly looking to create goals for players at 4k Trophies and above - at least initially."
No further details have been revealed but it's safe to say that Supercell has a lot of interesting things in store for its fans. Aside from the balance changes, we can definitely expect new features and possibly new contents in the next major update! Check back for more Clash Royale news!
