Pokemon Go was an initial success but quickly lost players due to various reasons. However, the game has quickly risen back up and gained another popularity surge.
Pokemon Go Surges Yet Again
According to USA TODAY, the mobile Pokemon game has gained yet another popularity surge. While the fanbase has been active over the past few months, more people are beginning to use the app again. The one simple reason for this is the major update that brought in a ton of new features.
Firstly, the major spotlight is the 80 new creatures that come from Gen 2, Gold and Silver. Fan favorite Pokemon like Chikorita, Totodile and Cyndaquil have made their way to the game for players to catch. On the other hand, Niantic has also included berries which can help fans catch new monsters.
Moreover, they have also tweaked the overall interface as well as added a few new cosmetic items for the avatar. This was a crucial move on Niantic's end as it has spawned newfound excitement and now sits on the third most popular game in Google Play. On the other hand, it is now on the top 30 list on the iOS App Store.
Take Part in the Upcoming Pokemon Day
Aside from the new features, players should expect even more things to come. IGN reports that Niantic will include a special festive Pikachu in celebration of Pokemon Day launching next week. Players who stumble across the said monster will be wearing a party hat that will remain even after the special day.
The event will launch on Feb. 26 at 1 pm PT/4pm ET and 9 pm UK. On the other hand, the event will end on Mar. 6 at exactly the same time. Pokemon Day celebrates the day the series first debuted in Japan starting with Pokemon Red and Green back on Feb. 27, 1996. Fans can partake in the festivities by downloading Pokemon Go for free.
