Nokia announced the much-awaited Lumia 928 recently which will succeed the company's Windows Phone 8 (WP8) powered Lumia 920. Apple unveiled the iPhone 5 in Sep. 2012 and the company is rumored to reveal the iPhone 5S/6 soon.
Let's see if the specifications of Lumia 928 are enough to compete with the iPhone 5.
Processor
The Lumia 928 features a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, which Qualcomm claims has "best in-class performance." This is the same processor found in the predecessor, the Lumia 920. On the other hand, the iPhone 5 features a powerful dual-core A6 processor, which is clocked at 1.3GHz.
Display
The iPhone 5 sports a 4-inch IPS LCD Retina display while the Lumia 928 has a slightly bigger 4.5-inch OLED display. The iPhone 5 and Lumia 928 offer a pixel resolution of 1136 x 640 and 1280 x 768, respectively.
The Apple and Nokia smartphones have pixel densities of 334 ppi and 326 ppi.
Form Factor
The Lumia 928 measures 5.24 x 2.71 x 0.44 inches, compared to the iPhone 5's 4.87 x 2.31 x 0.30 inches dimensions, making the former taller, wider, and thicker than the Apple offering. Weight wise, at 3.95 ounces, the iPhone 5 is much lighter than the Lumia 928 which weighs 5.7 ounces.
Storage and Memory
When it comes to storage, the Apple smartphone trounces the Nokia offering. The iPhone 5 offers 16/32/64GB of internal memory, compared to Lumia 928's only 32GB option. Neither smartphone has the option to expand the memory, and both offer 1GB of RAM.
Camera
The Lumia 928 features an 8.7-megapixel rear-facing camera, whereas the iPhone 5 has an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera. The Lumia 928 has a much-touted Xenon flash when compared to the LED flash on the iPhone 5. Both the smartphones have a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera.
Software and Battery
The Lumia 928 runs on Microsoft latest WP8 OS, whereas the iPhone 5 runs on the iOS 6.
A 2000mAh battery powers the Lumia 928 while the iPhone 5 has a 1440 mAh battery.
Colors, Availability, and Pricing
Both the Lumia 928 and the iPhone 5 are available only in the black and white color options.
The Lumia 928 is heading for U.S. carrier Verizon and is expected to have a price tag of $99.99 on a two-year contract. On the other hand, the 16GB version of the iPhone 5 is available for $199.99 on a two-year contract from Verizon.
The Lumia 928 is just a minor upgrade from the Lumia 920. As such the smartphone users who prefer the iPhone 5 over the Lumia 920 may still prefer the Apple smartphone over the Lumia 928.
