Nokia Amber Update For WP8 Lumias Rolls Out, Brings Smart Camera Mode

Nokia is gearing up to roll out a new software update for its Windows Phone 8-powered Lumia smartphones this summer. The update, dubbed Amber, will be an over-the-air (OTA) one and will bring the Smart Camera mode touted by the just-launched Lumia 925.

"Lumia owners, there's a pretty significant software update coming your way. Dubbed Lumia Amber, the new software will bring both minor and major improvements, including new camera features and FM radio support, "reports PhoneArena.

According to a WPCentral report, the update's roll out will coincide with Microsoft's GDR2 update later this summer. The update is a part of a series which has been planned for the Lumias and will build on the impending GDR2 update for Windows 8. The Amber update will bring several improvements and new features, including FM radio support and camera enhancements.

The new Nokia Smart Camera mode which "offers an easy way to capture ten images at once and edit the pictures with options like Best Shot, Action Shot, and Motion Focus for creating the perfect high quality image" will be made available to WP8 Lumia smartphones via the Amber update.

Moreover, WP8-powered Lumia devices (with the exception of Lumia 620) that lack FM radio will be updated to turn on the dormant FM radio feature. Per reports, the Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 will also get the double-tap to wake feature like the Lumia 925 post the update. The update is also expected to bring faster burst shots.

The Amber update will also bring ISO support for speeds up to 3200, less noise, superior color production, image quality enhancements, faster burst shorts and more.

Nokia is yet to confirm the exact release date for the software update roll out, but speculations hint at a July release.
