The Samsung Galaxy S4 may be the fastest selling Android phone, having sold 6 million units in just 15 days, but its tag as the hottest smartphone seems to be in jeopardy courtesy of niggling issues users have been complaining of since the handset made its way to consumers. Taking some sheen off the landmark sales are complaints that the Galaxy S4 users are encountering rebooting issues.
A few weeks ago Galaxy S4 users reported smearing issues and purple tints on the smartphone's touchscreen display. Earlier in May, reports of users facing overheating and battery drainage issues started emerging as anxious Galaxy S4 owners thronged forums in search of a solution.
Now new complaints pertaining to the smartphone's rebooting issues are surfacing online. The rebooting issue has a growing thread on XDA-Developers forum and from the look of things it seems that Samsung would need to push out a software update to resolve the issue.
According to the thread, the Samsung flagship for 2013 apparently malfunctions when users launch the camera via the lockscreen widget. This action in turn results in the Galaxy S4 rebooting suddenly. Some users also cite that the problem doesn't appear for a while after the reboot and note that the issue only emerged after the Galaxy S4 got a recent software update.
"I have a weird 'bug' that has been occurring randomly," writes a user. "When I launch the camera using the lockscreen widget. App start, camera shows no image and bam, reboot. After they reboot, doing the same thing doesn't cause a reboot. Weird. Anyone else have this 'bug?'"
Some users in turn encounter the same rebooting problem, but when the camera has been launched from the Home screen instead of the lockscreen. Some owners opine that the excessive heat coming from just below the camera could be causing this problem.
Users also complain regarding camera start-up times and say that it is slower than other Android smartphones. Apparently, the camera failed to respond when tapping the shutter button on the screen.
However, at this juncture, the rebooting issue seems to be affecting only a small section of users, at least for now. Samsung though is yet to acknowledge the issues and roll out a fix. The rebooting issue seems to be a software problem so all Samsung needs to do is push out a software patch.
Does your Samsung Galaxy S4 have any rebooting issues ?
